The COOs or the Chief Operations Officers are one of the top executives working for any firm and have a lot of responsibilities on their shoulders. There position is one of a kind and along with it, comes a lot many powers. Making decisions and insuring that they are implemented is one of their main duties. Qualifications for the Job: The minimum qualifications for the job of a Chief Operations Officer requires them to have a degree in business along with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the area of management for a firm along with knowledge of supervision and senior leadership responsibilities. They are expected to be quick thinkers and a public speaker. Capabilities to make or break deals should be their expertise. All this comes only with experience.

A qualified COO should not only be dynamic but also strive for leadership and work towards excellence. They should be honest and should have no qualms about doing field jobs visiting places across the globe on business.

Responsibilities of a COO: There is no specific list of the responsibilities for a Chief Operations Officer. They are expected to be the think tank for the company and undertake all the strategic measures. Their job is to meet the goals and take steps towards that direction. They need to be in constant touch with the current working scenario and need to be involved in all activities. Every process and operation needs to be monitored and its feedback provided at regular basis to the higher authorities.

They are responsible for controlling the managers working in the company by consolidating them into groups and keeping them motivated. Training programs need to be supplemented with the development strategies to improve their efficiency. All deals relating to operations with different companies and clients have to be managed.

Position: The Chief Operations Officer is directly below the Chief Executive Officer. They have direct links to the board of directors and have to present the developments on constant basis. Under the COOs desk are all the regional directors. All developments from their side have to be accumulated from time to time and any changes notified. Taking care of the finances, the human rights and the employees working in the company are their prime concerns.

The COO is supposed to meet with all the partners with the firm and maintain a healthy relationship. He is the representative for the company and the onus of all activities lies on him. Communications between different offices need to be broadcasted via the Head Quarters. The position of the COO is a strong one and they have the permission to carry out all the plans as they see fit. Promotional initiatives at the inner and outer circles are always welcome.

This job description is pretty hard to follow. There is only a limited amount of work that can be done by a human due to which, there is a lot of delegation required. There are long nights in the schedule and a lot of travel required.
